The Magnolia Mother’s Trust

The Magnolia Mother’s Trust provides $1,000 a month for one year to 20 Black mothers living in extreme poverty in Jackson, MS. The first disbursements in the program were given in December of 2018, and the design of the program was funded by a grant from the Economic Security Project. A second year of the program began in March of 2020, with 110 moms participating.

We chose to invest in this groundbreaking program because we cannot create economic justice in this country without addressing gender and racial justice, and Black women and their children are among the most impoverished across the country and particularly in Mississippi.

The program is led by Aisha Nyandoro through her nonprofit Springboard to Opportunities. You can learn more here.
